On Sunday, November 1, 2020 Boone, Iowa became home to an Elks Lodge. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks officially instituted Boone Lodge No. 2884 during a solemn ceremony held at Jefferson Elks Lodge No. 2306 in Jefferson, Iowa.
Participating Grand Lodge and state dignitaries from the Northwest District of the Iowa Elks Association included Bill Berger, Diane Gibson, Steve Brown and Les Fister of Jefferson; Steve Bradley, Angel Miller and Dan Olson of Sioux City; Tom Maher of Ottumwa; Allen Sells and Dave Delagardelle of Ames; Roger McQueen of Shenandoah; Judi Graff of Estherville, Dave Neeley of Creston, Bob Burns of Iowa Falls and Kevin Sylvester of Ottumwa.
New Boone lodge officers were installed after the Lodge was instituted. Those participating on Sunday were Exalted Ruler Scott Safly, Leading Knight Tracy Davis, Lecturing Knight Bonnie Bushore-Barnett, Secretary Brittany Whitton, Esquire Michael Whitton, Trustee Alena Prom Robinson and Trustee Dolan Olson.
Members initiated were Jacob Schroder, Maranda Adams, John Adams, Penny Hill and Benjamin Rittgers. Other new members will be initiated at the next lodge meeting in Boone.
Trustee Dolan Olson started working on getting an Elks Lodge in Boone in 2015 and after several years of yard work and dedication, it finally paid off. According to Olson, who has been an Elks member for over 40 years, “It’s been a very long time coming with a lot of hard work by a lot of people”.
Boone Elks Lodge meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 7 p.m. at 720 South 8th Street in Boone on the 2nd floor. The lodge is also open every Friday at 5 p.m.
